Education

Does my state recognize diminished value?

Choose your state. Each page is written for that state. Education only, not legal advice, and not a promise you will recover money.

In every state, a claim against the at-fault driver’s insurer (third-party) is the usual educational starting point after a quality repair. Talking with your own collision insurer is more often recognized in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington — and still depends on the policy. A signed Certified report more often needs a state-licensed appraiser in California, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington.

How to use these pages

Each state page explains how insurance usually works there, local used-car market context, talking with the at-fault insurer versus your own policy, what proof helps, and where to verify with the official insurance department. These pages are not 50 legal opinions.

What this hub is not

It is not a substitute for a licensed attorney, not a guarantee of Certified coverage, and not a promise that any insurer will pay. District of Columbia is not listed here — these pages cover the 50 states.
